LASIK Consultation at Pink City Eye & Retina Center
If you want freedom from glasses or contacts, LASIK eye surgery might be the perfect solution. At Pink City Eye & Retina Center, we are here to help you take the first safe step towards clear vision with a friendly and caring consultation.
What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a popular and safe laser eye surgery that helps reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contact lenses. It corrects common vision problems such as:
- Nearsightedness (Myopia)
- Farsightedness (Hyperopia)
- Astigmatism
LASIK works by reshaping the front part of your eye (cornea) so that light focuses properly on the back part of your eye (retina), allowing you to see clearly.
Types of LASIK Procedures
At Pink City Eye & Retina Center, we explain each procedure in simple terms so our patients feel comfortable and well-informed. We offer four main types of LASIK based on the method used to treat the eye:
Type 1: LASIK with Corneal Flap Creation
We create a small flap on the surface of your eye (cornea), reshape the inner part with a laser, and then gently put the flap back. There are two kinds:
Type 1A: Blade-Based LASIK
- A fine instrument is used to form a small flap in the corneal surface.
- It’s a safe and affordable method.
Type 1B: Blade-Free LASIK (Femtosecond LASIK)
- A special laser is used to create the flap—no blade is used.
- It’s more advanced, precise, and gives faster recovery.
Type 2: PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
- No flap is made.
- The outer layer of the cornea is gently lifted, and a laser reshapes the underlying tissue.
- Healing takes a bit longer.
- Best for those with thinner corneas.
Type 3: SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)
- The latest and most gentle laser procedure.
- No flap is made.
- A small piece of tissue is removed using a laser through a tiny opening.
- Less dryness and quicker recovery.
Many patients prefer SMILE for its fast healing and comfort.
What Happens in All LASIK Procedures?
🔹 Step 1: Understand the Vision Problem
If you have a number (like -4.00), it means your eye shape is not focusing light properly. LASIK corrects this by reshaping the cornea.
🔹 Step 2: Laser Reshaping
- A laser reshapes your cornea for better focus.
- Around 10–12 microns of cornea are removed per 1 unit of power.
- For example, -5.00 means about 50 microns are corrected.
- We use wavefront-guided LASIK for personalized treatment.
🔹 Step 3: Safety Checks Before LASIK
We perform complete tests before recommending LASIK at our center:
- A pachymetry test helps determine corneal thickness
- If it’s too thin, PRK or SMILE may be a better choice.
🔹 Step 4: After the Laser
- Flap is placed back (in flap-based procedures).
- A soft contact lens is used in PRK/SMILE for healing.
- You can go home the same day.
Ideal Age for LASIK?
At our clinic, we usually recommend LASIK for:
- Adults 19 years or older
- People with stable eye number for 1–2 years
- No major eye conditions (like very dry eyes or thin cornea)
Who Should Avoid LASIK?
LASIK may not be suitable for everyone. We will guide you with care if it’s not safe for you.
1️⃣ Thin Cornea
- LASIK might not be advisable if your cornea doesn’t meet the minimum thickness requirement.
- We check this with Pachymetry.
2️⃣ Dry Eyes
- LASIK can make dryness worse.
- If your eyes are already dry, we may treat the dryness first.
- We use drops, supplements, or tear duct plugs as needed.
3️⃣ Other Eye Issues
- LASIK doesn’t fix all eye problems.
- Conditions like keratoconus or retinal disease need different treatments.
What Happens on the Day of Surgery? (Caring Info from Pink City Eye & Retina Center) We understand you may feel nervous or excited, and that’s okay. Our team ensures your experience is smooth and reassuring.
What Happens on the Day of Your Laser Vision Correction?
At Pink City Eye & Retina Center, we understand that undergoing LASIK or any type of laser vision correction can make patients feel a mix of excitement and nervousness — and that’s completely normal! Our team is here to ensure your entire experience is safe, smooth, and comfortable, right from the moment you walk in.
Let us explain what happens on the day of your laser procedure so you feel fully prepared and relaxed.
Step 1: Welcome and Registration
When you arrive at our clinic, our friendly staff will help you with:
- Registration formalities
- Guiding you to your pre-procedure room
- Answering any last-minute questions you may have
You’ll be given hospital clothes to change into for hygiene and safety, and then you can relax in your private room while you wait for your turn.
Step 2: Preparing for the Procedure
When it’s your turn, our staff will gently escort you to the laser surgery suite, where your treatment will take place. Inside the laser room:
- Your eye area will be cleaned carefully with a disinfectant solution (usually betadine) to ensure it’s sterile.
- A sterile drape will be placed around your eye to maintain a clean surgical field.
- A small, painless clip called a speculum will be placed to keep your eye gently open during the procedure — so you don’t need to worry about blinking.
We make sure you’re calm and comfortable before beginning anything.
Step 3: The Laser Procedure Begins
Depending on the type of LASIK procedure you’ve chosen at our center, the process varies slightly:
🛠️ If You’re Undergoing Blade LASIK (Microkeratome LASIK):
- A thin flap is created using a surgical blade while you remain on the same machine.
💡 If You’re Undergoing Blade-Free LASIK (Femtosecond LASIK):
- A femtosecond laser is used to create the flap.
- After flap creation, you are moved to a second laser machine where the main correction is performed with the excimer laser.
In both types, the corneal flap is lifted, the laser reshapes your cornea to correct your vision, and then the flap is gently placed back in its original position.
The laser portion of the procedure is completed in just seconds per eye.
Step 4: After the Procedure
- Once your laser procedure is completed, we will check your eye and make sure everything is perfectly in place.
- You’ll be shifted back to your room and given some time to rest.
- Protective eye shields or glasses may be given to avoid accidental rubbing.
- Our team will guide you about the eye drops, do’s and don’ts, and follow-up instructions before you go home.
You’ll be able to leave the clinic the same day—without stitches, needles, or discomfort. The majority of patients return to daily routines within a few days, needing only minor care.
What happens if I move my eyes during the laser treatment?
This is a frequent concern, particularly among those undergoing LASIK. Please don’t worry! Modern laser machines are extremely advanced.
- The laser used at Pink City Eye & Retina Center has an eye-tracking system that follows your eye movements in real-time.
- If your eye shifts too much, the system halts automatically until your eye is properly aligned again.
- This means your treatment stays safe, precise, and accurate — no matter what.
What is Post Lasik care for the eyes?
Post-LASIK care is crucial for proper healing and optimal vision recovery. After the procedure, patients may experience irritation, watering, glare in bright lights, and blurry vision due to a healing corneal wound. Minor side effects typically fade away within a few days after surgery.
Your doctor will prescribe medicated drops to help with healing and to guard against infection. These may include:
- Fluorometholone Eye Drops: A mild steroid that reduces corneal inflammation and aids healing.
- Antibiotic-Steroid Combo Drops: These help reduce inflammation, heal the cornea, and lower infection risks.
- Lubricants or Artificial Tears:Artificial tears or lubricating drops are often used to ease dryness and support recovery. They also improve clarity of vision during the early healing phase.
Most individuals regain comfort and resume normal tasks just days after the surgery. Vision improvement, especially for distance, is often noticeable immediately, as the myopic prescription is corrected.
For a smooth recovery, avoid head baths for several days and refrain from swimming for about a month. Corneal healing typically takes a few weeks, although most patients experience visual recovery much sooner. It’s crucial to follow all post-surgery care guidelines for a smooth and safe recovery.

Most patients experience noticeably better vision within a day, which continues to improve gradually.
Yes, LASIK results are usually long-lasting, especially if your eye power was stable before the procedure. Rarely, a touch-up may be needed.
Yes, we usually perform LASIK on both eyes on the same day for your convenience and faster recovery.
After LASIK, the vast majority of individuals no longer need corrective eyewear. However, after the age of 40–45, you may need reading glasses due to natural aging of the eye (presbyopia).
